Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat Gonorrhea. It belongs to a group of medicines called the “cephalosporins”. They are prescribed to patients with infections of the middle ear, sinus, throat, lung, urinary tract and kidney, as well as gonorrhea. Antibiotics kill bacteria. Cefixime antibiotic destroys the cell wall which protects the bacteria, causing the bacteria to break down and die.
The effectiveness of Cefixime has recently decreased. This is because strains of resistant bacteria are developing, meaning that they are less susceptible to being destroyed by the antibiotic.
